Skin cancer checks
Skin cancer is a big problem in Australia. Two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70. Every year, over 2,000 people die from it, and skin cancers make up about 80% of all new cancers in Australia.
Skin cancer can develop at any time, so it’s important to protect your skin and get regular skin checks, even in the cooler months. Sun damage from the summer might not show up straight away. It can take months or even years to turn into skin cancer. The earlier you find it, the better your chances of treating it. In some cases, early detection can prevent surgery or even save your life.
Why are skin checks important?
Regular skin checks help spot any changes in your skin early. The sooner we find skin cancer, the easier it is to treat. Talk to your doctor about your risk and ask for advice on how to detect skin cancer early.
When can I get a skin check?
Dr Gerry Miclat is available for skin cancer checks on Thursdays for both new and existing patients.
